PROGRESSION ROUTES FOLLOWING THE COUNTY EVENTS FOR 2019

Summer Half-term week 27-31 May: ESGA Regional Championships

Please contact your regional organiser for details of your event.  In most cases, a county will be able to put forward teams of up to 6 boys and 3 girls.  These are scratch championships open to all school students born on or after 1st September 1999.  There is no minimum age requirement.  The best-performing 10 available boys and 5 available girls from the region will progress to the ESGA National Championships.  The Midland region will include one extra boy as national hosts, while each region may also put forward 2 extra girls into a national pool, with the lowest 2 handicaps overall proceeding to the Nationals.

Monday 24th June: ESGA National Championships at Sherwood Forest GC

Qualification for the International Matches will be as follows:

Top 2 available boys and top 2 available girls will play against both Scotland and Wales,

Next 10 available boys and next 4 available girls will play against Scotland,

Next 4 available boys and next available girl will play against Wales.

Wednesday 10th July: ESGA Team Championship at Woodhall Spa GC.

The winning school team should be selected from the nett results of the appropriate county qualifying event.  Teams may be all boys, all girls or mixed.  All players must have a CONGU competition handicap no higher than 28 (boys) or 36 (girls) at the time of the qualifying event.  The recommended format for qualifying events is Stableford, but it is ultimately a county decision.  A second team may be nominated to go into a ballot for unfilled places.  The ballot will be based on the number of teams competing in the county event.

Monday 22nd July: ESGA National U16 Championships at Cleckheaton & District GC.

Any player from an affiliated county association who was born on or after 1st September 2003 may be nominated for a place in these championships.  It is not necessary for them to have played at previous championships.  All entrants must have a CONGU competition handicap no higher than 6 (boys) or 8 (girls) at the closing date of the competition (3rd July 2019).  Any county schools U-16 champion who fulfils the handicap criteria will have priority over other entrants.  The remaining players will be balloted based on exact handicaps at 3rd July.  There will be 72 places in total.  The best 2 available boys and best available girl will be added to the team to play in the international match against Wales.

PAYMENTS FOR REGIONAL AND NATIONAL EVENTS

Regional Championships

There is no ESGA rule for these events.  Any costs should be dealt with at regional meetings.

ESGA National Championships

Each player and each regional team manager needs to pay a contribution to ESGA, which goes toward the cost of expenses, including accommodation and catering, at the National Championships.  This is based on two people sharing a twin room at the hotel.  The exact contribution for 2019 will be decided at the ESGA AGM on November 10th.  Remaining costs are met from ESGA funds (effectively from the EG grant and NASUWT sponsorship).

National Schools Team Championships

There is no entry cost for the event, but schools need to be aware that they are responsible for any necessary accommodation and for the costs of food over the 2 days (there is one exception to this; players only will be given one meal free of charge, covered by sponsorship from NASUWT).

ESGA Under-16 National Championships

Each player needs to pay a contribution to ESGA, which goes toward the cost of catering and other expenses at the U-16 Championships.  ESGA do not provide accommodation at this event, given the age of the players.  The exact contribution for 2019 will be decided at the ESGA AGM on November 10th.  Remaining costs are met from ESGA funds (effectively from the EG grant and NASUWT sponsorship).
