Yvonne Alford - Club Services Director

I began playing golf at Fingle Glen in 1998. I went through the ranks as Ladies’ Secretary, Ladies’ Captain, Competition Secretary and Handicap Secretary. I am now Assistant Club Secretary.

Knowing I will never be an elite golfer doesn’t dull my enthusiasm to gain a better knowledge of how golf works. For the past 3 years I have enjoyed the role of England Golf Voting Member Representative for Devon County Ladies’ Golf Association (DCLGA). Through this I have met many other volunteers across the English counties, along with England Golf board members and staff.

When the women made the decision to work towards a merger with the men, I was pleased to be part of the committee and have made many golfing friendships throughout Devon while visiting the clubs as part of the Communications Team.

As Director for Club Services, I will continue to work for the best interests of all golfers and help to improve our communications within Devon and look forward to meeting up with even more club members in future.

Chris Eddowes - Finance Director

I started playing golf at Dartmouth Golf & Country Club at the age of 9, representing the club in junior teams before eventually being Junior Captain in 2006.

Shortly after this began my years at university where I gained a Masters in Mathematics. During this time I was elected as Handicap Secretary on the Club Committee, represented the club in several leagues and competitions and was Club Champion in 2014.

I have since joined Churston Golf Club, representing them in several team competitions while retaining membership as an away player at Dartmouth.

After completing my degree, I took a role at Francis Clark LPP and qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 2015. During my time at Francis Clark I have overseen the preparation of the accounts for DCGU and now DevonGolf, until taking on the role of Finance Director in 2018. I look forward to helping to promote golf in the county and continuing the progress made in recent times following the incorporation and merger.

Nick James - Director & Chair

I started my golfing journey when I joined Bristol and Clifton Golf Club as a junior, having played numerous rounds of golf at pitch and putt courses in the Bristol area. When Oake Manor Golf Club first opened in 1993 I undertook the role of Treasurer on the Club Committee and became Captain in 1996.

The day after my Captain’s year finished I agreed to a new job and moved to North Devon joining Saunton Golf Club. Whilst at Saunton I became Secretary of the HSBC Golf Association running a week-long series of competitions for 160 players including the Bank Championship and Bank Matchplay event. We had the pleasure of playing at some of the great courses including Royal Porthcawl, Hillside, Southport & Ainsdale, St Anne’s Old Links, Fairhaven and my favourite course Ganton.

In 2007 I moved to Exeter and joined Teignmouth Golf Club, becoming a Director in 2010 and Club Captain in 2016. In 2012 I joined the Executive Committee of the Devon Golf Union until incorporation in 2016, serving as a Director and am currently a Director and Chair of  DevonGolf.

Brian Newman - Junior Development Director

My golfing career started at Stover Golf Club in 1987. By 1991 I had reduced my initial handicap of 25 to 15 thanks to regular coaching from Malcolm Craig,  with my first board competition win also in this year. A further reduction to high single figures by the mid 90's enabled me to represent Stover Golf Club in the DCGU Palairet Memorial competition and the local South Devon League. A house move in 2001 saw a move to Dainton Park Golf Club when a handicap reduction to 7 enabled me to represent them in Palairet Memorial Trophy and the South Devon League.

In 2009 I returned to Stover Golf Club and an early retirement in 2017 opened up an opportunity to work with the Junior Section at Stover Golf Club, alongside Junior Organiser Olga Lidbury. After 30 years' of playing golf on some amazing golf courses at home and abroad, I felt that this was a great opportunity for me to give something back to the game that had given me so many wonderful memories. In September 2019 I took over as Junior Organiser at Stover Golf Club and the following years have seen an amazing turn around in the number of juniors at the club, culminating in 2021 in Stover Golf Club winning  the Junior South Devon League for the first time in 4 years, as well as being crowned the best team in Devon by winning The Henry Truscott Cup for the first time in Stover Golf Club's history. I am very honoured to have been given this opportunity by DevonGolf to work with junior's throughout Devon.

Roger Worthington - Performance Director

I began my golfing life as a junior at Harwood Golf Club in Lancashire and joined Exeter Golf & Country Club in 1994. At Exeter I have been on many golf committees, Chairman of Greens and Captain in 2008.

I completed my County and England Golf refereeing exams in order to join the Devon refereeing team and in 2011 became Devon Men’s Coaching Manager. In 2013 I joined the Devon Men’s Executive Committee as Second Team Manager/Performance Director and the role evolved to include coaching for all Devon Men’s and Junior Elite Squads alongside County Coach Gary Milne.

Now the men’s and women’s golfing bodies have unified, I am looking forward to working with the Womens’ Team Managers and coaching personnel and am sure we will provide an excellent player pathway and success for all our teams.

Tim Aggett - Competition Director

It is great to have returned to the Board of DevonGolf. I previously spent a decade on the Management Committee of DGU pre-merger, where my primary focus was as the foundation Chairman of the Devon Golf Partnership. It is good to be able to move that focus to the County’s many competitions.

I have been fortunate to represent Devon in the Junior, Youth, Men’s and now Senior Men’s teams over a very long period of time and have played in many County tournaments and Championships – even managing to win the odd one. I hope that my long experience as a highly competitive player will help inform the decisions we make as a group going forward to the benefit of all.

After an early working life in banking, building societies and financial services I have, for the last 20+ years, been involved in golf club management, initially at The Warren from 2001 to 2007, a 9-year stint at Staddon Heights, 2 years at Torquay and I'm now approaching the end of my third year at Sidmouth where I work on a part-time basis. I'm sports mad and likely to be found in the stands at Sandy Park for every home Chiefs game - but golf is the real thing!

Geoff Green - Immediate Past President

I started my life in golf some 55 years ago upon joining Great Torrington Golf Club as a teenager.

I am proud to have served there as Competition Secretary, Honorary Secretary/Secretary on three occasions, Club Captain on six occasions and Chairman on three occasions - Great Torrington is a club that is close to my heart!

I have enjoyed Captaincy of the South West Region of the Golf Club Managers' Association and Captain of the Devon Golf Captains' Society.

I am privileged to have served on the Executive of the former Devon County Golf Union (now DevonGolf), the North Devon League for some years and, latterly, as Honorary Secretary/Treasurer of the South Western Counties' Golf Association for some five years.

Pam St Leger - President

I started playing golf in 2006 on a beginner’s course in Spain while keeping my ‘significant other’ company. I got hooked despite the frustration of the game. With support from the ladies at Thurlestone Golf Club I got more involved & joined the committee, progressing to Secretary & Lady Captain. I also spent 6 years' serving on the Executive Committee at the club, the last year as Club Chair.

I decided that, as a relative beginner, a sound knowledge of the rules might help and so began my study for level 1 & level 2 rules. I enjoy the involvement as a referee, both seeing some great golf and helping ensure fairness to all players. I was Inter-Club Match Secretary for DCLGA for 3 years, meeting many of Devon’s lady golfers. What a great time with lots of early starts travelling to clubs across Devon - the price of living 30 minutes from anything approaching a road rather than a lane! As my term of office was finishing I volunteered to help out as a Course Rater and, after 2 years walking courses with my head on a swivel learning what to assess/measure/factor into shots, I was hooked and am now one of the Team Leaders for Devon.  As a pharmacist by training it also appeals to my ‘geeky’ side.

I am looking forward to continuing to work for golfers of all levels with my involvement with  DevonGolf as President.
