DEVONGOLF U18 GIRLS' CAPTAIN 2023 - SOPHIE PAGE

I am very proud to officially announce that the DevonGolf Girls’ Captain for 2023 is Sophie Page.

Sophie has taken over the prestigious role from her good friend and team mate Carys Morris who led the Girls’ Squad so admirably in 2022. 

Sophie’s history with DevonGolf Girls’ goes back to 2016 when, at the age of 11 and playing off a handicap of 28, she attended her first DevonGolf Junior Girls’ coaching session. She went on to play her first match for the Girls’ Team in 2017 and has represented Devon in every South West Inter-Counties’ Girls competition since then. 

Sophie has won some of the most prestigious Devon club and county competitions, individually or as part of the East Devon Golf Club teams. But her achievements reach beyond the county and in 2021 Sophie won the Welsh U16 Girls' National Golf Championship at Neath Golf Club, scoring the lowest girls' gross score as well as the best nett score in the Championship. In 2022 Sophie progressed through to the quarter-finals stage in the U18 Girls' Welsh National Championship. Now playing off an impressive 1 handicap, she also plays for the DevonGolf Women's Team.

Sophie secured a place at Hartpury College where she achieved her Foundation Diploma in Sport (Golf) in her first year. Now in her second year she is completing her extended diploma for which Sophie has been awarded a scholarship for her dedication and achievement in golf and studies. Sophie is part of the Hartpury College “A” team and plays in Inter-College and Association of College competitions.

Sophie is already a strong role model for young players and with her PGA Level 1 Coaching has assisted with DevonGolf Junior Coaching programmes across the county. This year she will be assisting the coaches for the DevonGolf Development squad and will be an inspiration to the younger girls.

As Girls’ Team Manager I feel very lucky to have such a talented, committed and kind girl like Sophie to captain the team. I have no doubt her skill, experience and patience will make a huge impact and be of great support and inspiration to the squad for 2023.
