SOUTH WEST WOMEN'S GOLF ASSOCIATION BOWMAKER 2022

DevonGolf hosted the South West Women's Golf Association Bowmaker and Honiton Golf Club provided an excellent venue. The Bowmaker, a 3 ball butterball Stableford, 2 scores to count format, is always popular and is open to all women and girls of affiliated clubs in Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Gloucestershire, Somerset and Wiltshire. For £30 per player with a fantastic meal afterwards, it was a good day out with prizes of £100 per person for 1st place. Prizes went down to 6th place so there was plenty to play for.

After 2 days of rain it was touch and go whether the course would be open at all. At 8am the decision was made to go ahead and, luckily for the 90 golfers arriving from 4 of the 6 counties, no further rain came. The Honiton ladies pulled out all the stops with Ann D and Penny B sharing the starting responsibilities and Ann Jarvis, Steph Barnes and John Jackson ball spotting, not the warmest of jobs but all done with welcoming smiles. Our huge thanks to the fantastic support and hospitality at Honiton Golf Club.

First out were Sue Stanbury, Frances Harbron and Diana Johnson from Okehampton and they posted 76 points, a score which led until half way when Amanda Mayne (Saltford), Gillian Brown (Burnham & Berrow) and Jade Cope (Weston-Super-Mare) handed in their card with 78 points. They were looking good until near the end of the field when Weymouth Golf Club's Jo Booth, Angela Gascoigne and Katy Bean posted 79 points to take and keep first place.
