WOMEN'S TEAM TRAINING GETS OFF TO A GREAT START

A glorious day was awarded to the women who journeyed up to the Saunton links for the first of 3 coaching days for the Women’s County Squad. All were feeling very pucker in their new DevonGolf Ping overtops which the women and U18s now sport.

Karen Friendship (Yelverton), Gudrun Nolan (East Devon), Liz Bird (RND),  Vicky Holloway (2nd Team Manager)
Stacey Ford (Okehampton),  Lorna Elliot (Dartmouth), Rebekah Nicholls (Stover), Sarah Hoff (Manager ), Emily Morey (East Devon)

Four 45 minute coaching sessions were delivered by PGA Advanced Coach Tiffany MacKenzie and former DevonGolf superstar Jess Smart (née Bradley), now a fully qualified PGA professional and former tour player. The sessions covered pitching and chipping, putting, bunker play and a trip to the range for 4 bespoke activities. The players were given lots of practice drills to challenge them and 1:1 coaching advice throughout the morning. After a bite to eat, the players then went out onto the West Course to put the morning's practice to good use and apply it to the course in a Fourball Matchplay format. It was a long day after an early start, but when the weather is that good it was certainly worth the effort and, unbelievably, many of the players played in just their polo shirts, shorts and sunglasses - yes, this was in March!

A big thank you to Saunton Golf Club for hosting this event and to Tiffany and Jess for their efforts on the day. Vicky Holloway, myself and the players had a brilliant day and, hopefully, this will serve to kick start this season.

This was great preparation for the 2022 County events which are fast approaching. The first for the Women's Elite is a competitive match against the reigning South West champions Somerset at Tiverton Golf Club.
