DEVONGOLF JUNIORS PLAY CORNWALL

The boys were keen to be picked for the Cornwall v DevonGolf match at Truro Golf Club on Sunday, 19th May. Those tasked with holding up Devon's honour were Captain Jack Dart (Churston), George Furneaux (Churston), Thomas Yeo (Portmore Park), Stan White (Saunton), Noah Mulligan (Thurlestone), Miles McMurdo (Exeter), Troy Riley (Torquay) and Charlie Ashbee (Boringdon Park).

The weather held up with mixed cloud and sunshine with some fairly gusty winds. The course was tough and local knowledge certainly helped the Cornwall players.

Both teams played extremely well with some great golf on display. The score of 9-3 in Cornwall's favour would indicate the quality of the teams was quite far apart, but the overall scores didn't reflect the quality of the matches. There were a number of U14's County debuts playing and they all performed well under pressure.

After losing the first 3 matches in the Foursomes we really needed a win from Charlie Ashbee and Troy Riley who came through a tough match winning 1 up. All of the DevonGolf players drove well on the first tee for their singles matches. Captain Jack Dart nearly won the first singles match but unfortunately lost the 16th with an OB on a tight lined par 3 and went on to lose the match 1 down.  Noah Mulligan won his match on the 16th hole after leading most of the way winning 3 and 2. The other winning singles match was Miles McMurdo, also winning on the 16th 3-2.

The match was played in great spirits with all of the juniors getting on well and being respectful to one another whilst also showing a real competitive edge.

Jack did a good first speech as U14s captain - probably the hardest part of the day for him!
