U14s WIN v WILTSHIRE

Devon U14s win on the road...
This year's new-look U14s travelled to Cumberwell Park on Saturday to prepare for Sundays league match against Wiltshire and to hopefully continue a winning trend.

The boys worked really well on the practice round, gathering information to give themselves the best chance to win against a team that on paper looked very evenly matched but playing in their own back yard and training ground.

Morning foursomes got the boys off to a great start, with Lewis Ross/Max parsons, Jack Dart/Alfie Messias, and Harry Edworthy/ Toby White all coming out on top to give Devon a 3-1 lead at lunch. 

Despite this healthy lead, we all new the two teams were closer than that, and the afternoon singles would be a huge fight....and so it proved, as Wiltshire came out fighting to try and turn the match around. The first two matches involving Devon's Lewis Ross and Max Parsons were quite simply epic!!.... Lewis against Wiltshire's Tom Scullion provided us all with some very impressive golf, blow for blow, with neither backing down...and Max Parsons in match two was engaged in an equally thrilling encounter, so when both matches finished a/s on the 18th it felt fitting, and Devon maintained their advantage.
Fred Bishop in match three increased Devon's lead with a 3/2 win, and David Baldwin in match five was involved in another really tight and hard fought match with David hanging in on the front nine and getting back on terms on the back bringing in another valuable half. With Harry Edworthy's 5/3 win and Toby White with yet another hard fought narrow victory, the boys sealed a great 7.5 to 4.5 win against a very capable opponent.

One of the most spirited and hard fought encounters in which I've had the pleasure to be involved. All credit to both teams for some great matches, played in great spirit.
