U14s defeat Cornwall at Trethorne

Devon U14s v Cornwall @ Trethorne Gc on 21st August.

Our 2nd Jack Roberts trophy match saw us take on Cornwall away and try to make it two wins from two after our convincing win over Dorset.

The morning foursomes went to plan as we took a 2-1 lead into lunch with a 5/3 win for James Reed and Craig Passmore, and Max Neild / Dominic Alan 2up.

But Cornwall were not about to give in without a fight!, in fact, deep into the back 9 in the afternoons single, we were looking very uncomfortable with only Craig Passmore leading his game with Cornwall were starting to look favourites!!...

But in typical Devon U14 style, we showed some great fighting spirit, firstly with James Reed who birdied the 17th to square up his match against George Leigh and got us a half,

Max Neild narrowly lost on the 18th after a brave fight back, but Keir Begley who had also been trailing, brilliantly turned his match around to gain us another half. Still needing another point to secure the win, it was left to Tiverton's Jay Scott who was also a couple down came through for Devon and won on the 17th... Wins for Eddie Jackson and Haydon McCance completed a great day.... Devon 7 Cornwall 5.

Thanks to all the Cornwall team who helped to provide a very enjoyable day played in good spirit. Thanks to Trethorne for their hospitality and good food.
