Devon Seniors valiant win in League v Wiltshire

Report

Channel League.

Having won the opening two fixtures against Somerset and Gloucester it was important to continue with a win against Wiltshire at Tiverton.

The opening four balls proved yet again to be closely contested with two matches finishing on the final hole and resulting in a 3/2 winning margin for Devon. Unfortunately one member of the Team was taken unwell during the morning round but Barrie Keith was available to stand in and make his County debut.

The opening two afternoon singles going to Wiltshire put them ahead for the first time and with three matches going to the last green the overall result remained in doubt for some time. Eventually each of the three matches had a favourable outcome and the last eight matches resulting in a 6.5 to 1.5 winning margin and an overall result of 9.5 to 5.5 points victory for Devon.

This result puts Devon in a strong position with only one other county unbeaten so far, namely Cornwall that is the next home fixture at Dainton Park.

So far so good to retain the Duncan Samuels Trophy.
