Devon Seniors win 1st SCL match

Match Report

Devon started the 2015 Channel League season with a great 9-6 away win against Somerset at Mendip Springs on May 8th.

They went into the afternoon singles with a slim 3-2 lead after the morning fourballs but were able to increase the margin during a closely fought match to win the pm 6-4.

Jon Gynne the non-playing Devon Caption was naturally delighted with the result which sets up Devon who are attempting to retain the Seniors Channel League title for the second year running.

Devon host Gloucestershire at Teignmouth in the their next match on Thursday May 14th.

Seniors Channel League Format

The Seniors Channel League comprises the seven Counties of Cornwall, Devon, Somerset, Wiltshire, Gloucestershire, Gwent and Glamorgan.

The matches are played off scratch handicap and 15 points are to play for, 5 in the morning 9 hole fourballs and 1 point for each of the afternoon singles.

The winning Team receives 1 point and the County who accumulate the most points after the six matches each side play during the season wins the Seniors Channel League title. Should a match tie then it's half a point each.

If at the end of the last tie of the season two or more Counties have the same points then the accumulative total of individual games won within each match decides the outcome.

Qualification for selection for matches are as follows;

* Age 55 from the date of 55th birthday

* Category 1 handicap player as a rule of thumb, although players aspiring to such are    encouraged to join the squad.

* Players of 9 or less are very welcome to play in the Seniors Meetings held throughout the Summer details to be found on the County Web-site diary. The meetings are Stableford scoring both scratch and handicap with a season 'order of merit' to play for.
