Report from Team Manager, Grahame Moore

"On the days of the championships, the weather was superb, which helped all the counties to play some excellent golf.

9th April - Wednesday morning saw the Team and Individual Stroke Play competition get under way. Tom Trowbridge with a gross 70, par for the course got the Devon boys off to a good start. We then had 2 scores of 72, one of 73 and a further 2 of 74, to give us a grand total of 435. These scores enabled the boys to win the team stroke play shield by 1 shot from Dorset. Tom was 2nd best individual (Somerset's Jamie Li scored 69). The 6 boys averaged 72:5 which was first class.

Wednesday afternoon was the start of the 'round robin' match play. We played Somerset, and after several tight games,
won 4 - 3. Wins for James Thompson, Danny Guy, Sam Williams and the new foursome partnership of Seb Born and Scott
Parker clinched the match.

10th April - Thursday morning we met the old enemy Cornwall. Wins for Tom Trowbridge, James Thompson, Danny Guy, Jack Pope
and our foursomes duo, gave Devon a 5 - 2 win and set us up for the afternoon against Dorset who were also unbeaten by then.
The boys were very determined and remained focused. Again we got off to a great start with Tom Trowbridge winning his
game, followed by wins for James Thompson, Sam Williams and Danny Guy. Winning the first 4 games enabled us to
retain the Match Play Shield and complete the double, remaining undefeated.

All the boys played exceptionally well, and did their bit in contributing to the County's success. Special mention to 14
year old Scott Parker, who in the individual stroke play, played to his handicap, and had 2 wins out of 3 in the match
play. Special thanks to our coach Gary Milne for his help in getting the boys prepared for these championships, to
Keith Thompson and our President Mike Jewell for all their assistance in making this event such a success.

We all look forward to the SWCGA championship and EG Boys County Championship Qualifier at Teignmouth Golf Club on 8th July.
