Devon entertained Gwent at Royal North Devon this weekend in the final Channel League match of the season, devon made a late change to the starting line up with Sam Edwards replacing dave Ashley who was unavailable due to work committments.

James Smith and sam Edwards led the foursomes, playing some solid golf and running out winners 4&3, the usually dependable Jason Hampton & David Blick were on the wrong end of a 3&2 defeat and this was followed up by Ryan Pope & Matt Wells losing on the last 1 Down, Jimmy Mullen & Adam Bridgewater were also on the recieving end of a last hole defeat but Dan Rosevear and new cap Anthony McGeorge pulled Devon back into the match winning 3&2.

Devon needed 6 wins in the afternoon to secure victory and it didn't start well as Edwards was outgunned 4&3, but then the fightback started with Mullen easing to a 4&3 win on home soil, Ryan Pope then added a further point winning 4&2, David Blick was 1 up in his match and Wells & Smith were both 4 up early on.

Rosevear was defeated 4&2 but no matter devon just needed 4 more wins, McGeorge then sealed another win, Bridgewater was 3 down through 9 holes and Hampton was 1 down, Smith and Wells both won their games so Devon now had 5 wins but still neede 1 point to win 8-7, Bridgewater was fighting back now only 1 down through 15 holes, but Hampton was put to the sword 3&1.

David Blick halved his match leaving devon half a point short of a winning total, but Bridgewater hit his approach on the shortv 16th to 10 feet to win the hole, all square with two to play and with Devon needing half a point for victory, the 17th was halved in par 5's, so all down to the last hole in the last match of the Channel league, nerves of steel required and Bridgewater did not falter, a stuning approach on the last to within 12 feet and two putts later the half a point secured as Devon win 8-7 to give them a chance of winning the Channel league, just have to wait on the results of the matches left to be played, well done to all the guys involved this year.
