Report from Jason Hampton

On the blustery links of Weston-Super-Mare, Devon aimed to continue their winning start to the Channel League. However, the hosts, Somerset, had very different ideas. With the Captain’s golf clubs getting a rare outing, keeping track of matches was very difficult so this report will be more of an overview. The standard of golf from both sides was of a very high standard, with most of the matches, especially in the afternoon, almost literally raining birdies and eagles. Somerset took the spoils in the morning 3.5 to 1.5, but there were only 1 holes difference between the two sides.

The afternoon singles continued in a similar manner. Six matches went to the last hole, with only the ‘veteran’ Adam Bridgewater taking a full point for Devon. It was a tough day for a valiant Devon team, and a couple of putts either way in a few games would have given the scoresheet a very different feel, but congratulations to a strong Somerset team.

Many thanks to all at Weston-Super-Mare GC, for being such great hosts, and also for giving us an apt description for the events on Sunday ( as in ‘we’ve had a …………….’ ).
