DUNN LEADS THE WAY AS MASONS KINGS WINTER SERIES HEADS FOR DRAMATIC FINALE

The Masons Kings Winter Series has firmly established itself as a highlight of the Devon winter golf calendar, with its second year proving even more popular than the first. Designed to provide competitive opportunities for players hoping to secure places in the Devon county teams, the Scratch Stableford series has attracted more than 100 of the county's top golfers across the opening five rounds.

With one round remaining, the race for the title remains finely poised.

Tough Conditions at Yelverton
Round 5 took place at Yelverton Golf Club, where persistent winter rain meant the event was played as a non-qualifier with competitors hitting from mats. Despite the challenging conditions, a number of players still produced impressive scores.

Leading the way was Torquay’s Will Farley, who set the clubhouse target early after teeing off in the opening group and posting an excellent 38 points. His score stood the test of the field, although Jack Dart of Churston matched the total before narrowly losing out on count-back.

Behind them, Lee Marels (Dartmouth) and Dan Rosevear (Thurlestone) both recorded solid rounds of 36 points, while Freddie Eglin (Tiverton) – making his debut in the series – impressed with 35 points, matching the score of series leader Sam Dunn (Warren).

The best junior performance of the day came from Joseph Aldous of Staddon Heights, whose 34-point round earned him the Best Junior Score.

As is often the case in winter golf, high scores were hard-earned, with many players left to rue missed putts and near-misses.

Series Standings Tighten
After 5 rounds, only the best 4 scores from 5 events count, which has tightened the leaderboard ahead of the decisive final round.

Sam Dunn (Warren) remains the man to catch with 26 points, but the chasing pack is close behind. Dan Rosevear (Thurlestone) sits second on 22, with Lee Marels (Dartmouth) third on 21.

Further down the leaderboard, Jack Dart (Churston), Will Farley (Torquay) and Jay Scott (Tiverton) are all within striking distance should they produce a strong final round.
