The Late Philip Parker

It is with deep sadness that we write to inform you of the passing of Philip John Parker, Chairman of the English Golf Union, from 2000 to 2005.
A long‑standing member of Exeter Golf & Country Club, Philip served as Club Captain in 1983, a role he fulfilled with characteristic enthusiasm. His commitment to the game extended far beyond the club. In 1984 he joined the Devon Golf County Executive Committee as Treasurer, serving the county with distinction for circa 30 years.
Philip’s leadership and dedication were recognised across the county and the country. He served as Devon Golf Union County President from 1989 to 1991, and again as Centenary President in 2011, marking two significant chapters in the organisation’s history. His passion for nurturing young talent led him to become Chairman of the Devon County Junior Society from 1996 to 2000, where he played a key role in supporting the next generation of golfers.
Philip served as Chairman of the English Golf Union from 2000 to 2005, guiding the organisation through important years of development. His exceptional service to the sport was recognised in 2012 when he received the prestigious Gerald Micklem Award.
