A wonderful autumn day at Okehampton Golf Club set the stage for this year’s Women’s Inter-Club Finals' Day. With sunshine, supporters lining the fairways, and plenty of first-tee nerves, four major trophies were decided in style.
This year’s matches were played with stand-in trophies for the Still Cup and Sheelah Creasy Bowl, after the originals were sadly stolen earlier in the year. Winning clubs will be presented with a glass keepsake to treasure permanently, while replacement decisions are still in discussion.
The Still Cup – Teignmouth v Torquay
The first final was the Still Cup (scratch matchplay, played since 1903) between neighbours Teignmouth and Torquay.
With two games each, tension grew.
That sealed the four points needed, so the final game between Kendal Bradley (Teignmouth) and Sally Spokes (Torquay) was called in.
Teignmouth retained the Still Cup, with Team Captain Amanda Hall receiving the trophy from DevonGolf President Roger Worthington. Torquay Lady Captain Sally Spokes accepted the E. Young Bowl as runners-up.

President’s Trophy – Tavistock 2 v Tiverton
The handicap matchplay competition saw Tavistock 2 take on Tiverton.
At 2–2, the last three matches decided it:
Tavistock 2 claimed the President’s Trophy, with Captain Tracy Sutcliffe celebrating in style on her birthday. Tiverton Lady Captain Lynne Veen accepted the runners-up award.
Doris Willes-Little Foursomes – Exeter v Teignmouth
This year saw 29 pairs compete, with semi-final wins for Ilfracombe and Stover, leaving Exeter’s Elizabeth Mapson & Alison James to face Teignmouth’s Surya Patterson & Kathryn
Protheroe in the Final.
Giving 11 shots, the Exeter duo found themselves 1 down through 10 and 15. But they battled back to all square after 16, then 1 up after 17. Teignmouth pulled level on the 18th and down the 19th they went, where Mapson & James finally secured victory.
Exeter’s Elizabeth Mapson & Alison James lifted the Doris Willes-Little Foursomes Cup, while Patterson & Protheroe (Teignmouth) were worthy runners-up.
Sheelah Creasy Bowl – Bovey Tracey v Sidmouth
The final match of the day brought drama in the Sheelah Creasy Bowl (higher handicap matchplay), as Bovey Tracey faced Sidmouth.
That left it 2–2, with the final pairing to decide:
Anne Blackler & Gill Johnson (Sidmouth) v Jenny Pennell & Sue Adams (Bovey Tracey). All square through 15, Sidmouth edged ahead and sealed the match on the 18th, winning 2-up.
Sidmouth lifted the Sheelah Creasy Bowl, with Captain Debbie Snelgrove receiving the trophy. Bovey Tracey took home the Olwen Williams Salver as runners-up – their best finish yet after two semi-final appearances in previous years.
Enormous thanks to Okehampton Lady President Jean, the Club Secretary Bev, the Pro Shop, greens staff, bar and catering team, and the many volunteers who gave their time.
Special appreciation to DevonGolf President Roger Worthington for starting matches and presenting trophies, to admin support Wendy Stanbury and to referees Terry Hembrow & Nigel Roy for their expert support throughout the season.
Congratulations to every player and every team that reached Finals Day – a superb achievement. The 2025 season ended in style and we look forward to another year of competitive, spirited golf in 2026.
