Teignmouth Golf Club hosted the Devon v Dorset Senior Women’s Match 2025.
Charlotte Dommett (Torquay) led the Devon team for the first singles game against Shelley Davies (Ferndown). Charlotte didn’t get into her stride and found herself 4 down after 10. Deciding to pull herself together, Charlotte went on to win 3 holes on the bounce and battled through to eventually win 1-up on the 18th. The first win was in the bag.
Playing the second singles game was Amanda Burchell (Bigbury) v Di Freda (Parkstone). Amanda quickly went 2-up after 4 but the game was all-square at the turn. The game was a tight sparring match on the back 9 with Amanda either 1-up or 2-up. Amanda birdied the 17th, par 4, to ensure a 2-1 win for Devon.
The third singles of the day saw Vicky Holloway (Teignmouth) replace Liz Bird after a late withdrawal due to injury the day before. Jane Southcombe (Broadstone), a 2 handicap, was Vicky’s opponent and there was never more than 1-up in it for either player and they were all-square on the 18th. The excellent birdies scored by both players ensured a tie and a very fair result after such a tight game.
Leading the first of the Foursomes pairings for Devon were Gilly Jarvis (Yelverton) & Sarah Hoff (Stover). Their opponents were Tries Rideout (Yeovil) and Caroline Beaumont (Sherborne) and Gilly and Sarah were 2-up after 9 holes, largely due to Sarah’s excellent long putting. Gilly and Sarah’s steady golfing abilities dovetailed well. They closed out the match on the 16th, par 3, after Sarah put the ball on the green and Gilly made the 25-foot putt for a 3-2 win.
The final Foursomes pairing for Devon was Helen Chivers (East Devon) and Frances Harbron (Okehampton) playing Val Ford (Parkstone) and Edyta Procter (Ferndown). The visitors went 2-up in the early holes but Devon were back on level terms after 6 holes and the game was all-square heading into the back 9. From there on it was nip and tuck. Helen and Frances stayed strong and Helen’s drive onto the green on the 17th, par 4, put pressure on the visitors and their 2nd shot through the back of the green was enough to give Devon the 2-1 win.
All in all, it was an excellent result of 4½-½ in Devon’s favour and thank you to Dorset for a great match and Teignmouth Golf Club for hosting the event.
