President's Trophy Quarter Finals - Downes Crediton Golf Club
The President’s Trophy Quarter Finals were held at Downes Crediton Golf Club on a lovely warm day with 8 teams of ladies ready to do battle at the first of our inter-club knockouts this year.
The first quarter final was between Woodbury Park and Tiverton. Karen Buck won the first game for Woodbury Park but then the Tiverton ladies took command with game wins for Lizzie Bowman, Clare Benson, Maureen Postles & Marion Ruffett to take the overall match.
Match 2 was between East Devon 1 and Staddon Heights. Nicola Lowe and Mo Reynolds won their games for East Devon while Jane Burley-Brown and Bev Britton won games for Staddon Heights. Two Staddon Heights ladies then took their games on past the 18th, Joanne Hatherley beating Rosemary Pratt on the 19th and Kate Ball beating Carole Brailey on the 20th to give Staddon Heights the 4 wins they needed to take the match.
Match 3 was between Saunton and Tavistock 2. Helen Lethbridge and Fiona Snape won their games for Saunton but Tavistock had wins for Belinda McSherry, Claire Mundell, Tracy Sutcliffe and Margaret Smith to take the match.
The last quarter final was between Teignmouth and Thurlestone. Sarah Loader of Thurlestone won the first game followed by wins for Teignmouth ladies Sam Rogers and Jenny Mitchell and Kate Creber. Thurlestone fought back with wins for Pam Adams and Bridget Lafferty who beat Teignmouth's Rosie Arnold on the 20th hole. It all came down to game 7 which was won by Claire Guard of Thurlestone to give them the overall match.
Congratulations to the winners who will meet at the semi-finals of the President’s Trophy at Boringdon Park Golf Club on Monday, 8th September - Staddon Heights v Tavistock 2 and Tiverton v Thurlestone.
