PAUL NEWCOMBE IS SENIORS' COUNTY CHAMPION 2025
Paul Newcombe, a Devon golfer man and boy, won the DevonGolf Seniors' Championship for the first time at Teignmouth Golf Club. Paul, Greens Manager at East Devon Golf Club, has his name on many DevonGolf trophies, often several times, and this win over 27 holes for the Rodney Beer Pitcher pretty much completes the set.
But it was no easy win for Paul. After the 9-hole round the leader with gross 34 was Andy Clark (Honiton), 2 ahead of Rick Osborne (Churston) with 36. Paul was tied for third place with Tim Jones (Warren), Andy Rogers (Downes Crediton), Richard Armitage (Teignmouth) and Tony Allsopp (Tiverton), all with 37. There were some heavy hitters with everything to play for over the next round.
The 18-hole round saw Paul shoot 72 and Rick 73 alongside Mark Snape (Saunton) and Chris Audin (Warren). The play-off was on between Rick and Paul and it took just the first hole for Paul to take the trophy, Rick was runner-up and Mark Snape was 3rd, beating Chris Audin on countback.
Paul now goes through to the final of the England Golf Seniors' County Champion of Champions at Woodhall Spa in September.

With a field of 63 players, clubs had to pick their teams for the Seniors' Team Shield. Tim Aggett, Chris Audin and Jeremy Binch lifted the trophy for the Warren.
