BRILLIANT BAKER WINS SCOTTISH MEN'S OPEN BY 7 SHOTS

Brilliant Baker wins Scottish Men's Open by 7 shots

Tiverton's Eliot Baker won the Scottish Men's Open Championship by a massive seven shots at North Berwick Golf Club on Sunday.

The Devon golfer fired rounds of 67, 66, 64 and 67 to finish on -20 to secure another emphatic victory, to add to his Portuguese Amateur Championship win earlier this year and last week's 3rd-place finish at the Brabazon Trophy, as well as shining for England Golf in their wins against Spain and in the European Cup of Nations.

It was success yet again for an Englishman at the event, after Dominic Clemons' stellar showing to win it in 2024.

Baker said: "It means a lot to me to win this trophy with some of the big names on it and to have my girlfriend by my side all week made it even more special.

"Chipping in for eagle on 11 in the first round was a real turning point for me because I didn’t feel like I was gaining any momentum and then that happened and I never really looked back. There was a moment in the third round when I made a bogey on 7, but then replied with four straight birdies to get back in the right direction.

"I’ll be celebrating this win by getting ready for the St Andrews Links Trophy next week but I’m sure I will celebrate with family and friends when I am back home!"

Baker joins a list of previous winners including Colin Montgomerie, Tommy Fleetwood and Andy Sullivan and admitted: "To win a trophy with those sorts of names on is brilliant, hopefully I can go on replicate the kind of success they have had!"
