The Sheelah Creasy Bowl semi-finals were held on Friday, 6th September at Downes Crediton Golf Club on a very wet day. Heavy rain the day before made the course very tricky and it rained throughout the match contributing further to the challenge. DevonGolf President Pam St Leger was on the first tee to get the matches underway.
The first semi-final was between Teignmouth and Dainton Park. The Teignmouth Pink Army was out in force and were not daunted by the weather. Lorraine Dunn and Anne Whitaker won their singles and the greensomes pair of Charlotte Gough and Marie Mayne won their game to give Teignmouth the three games wins needed for an overall match win. Mention must go to the first game out with Karen Cole for Dainton Park and Lorraine Gorman for Teignmouth who were all square after 18 when the match was won.
Bovey Tracey played Saunton in the second semi-final. The Saunton team dominated play with singles wins for Liz Fielder and Alison Pollok, followed by a greensomes win for Natasha Parsons and Hils Calvert to take the match.
So, the Sheelah Creasy Bowl Finalists for 2024 are Teignmouth and Saunton, congratulations to both teams. The semi-finalist trophies were given to Alison Penwell for the Bovey Tracey team and Julie Warner for the Dainton Park team, a big well done to both teams for reaching this stage of the competition, a great achievement.

My thanks to our host club Downes Crediton, to the Pro Shop and greens staff and the bar and kitchen staff who looked after us so well. Thanks also to the referees Terry Hembrow and Nigel Roy and Pam St Leger for making sure the matches got away on time and with all the necessary information. Huge thanks must go to Shirley Stunell from Downes Crediton who helped me with the planning and was hugely helpful the night before and early in the day when decisions were being made as to whether the wet conditions would allow the match to go ahead. Shirley was also present all day to welcome the teams and other Downes Crediton ladies were on hand to make sure the day ran smoothly – thank you all, your help was much appreciated.
Congratulations to all the ladies who took part and coped so well in the wet conditions on the day, it was a real feat of endurance.
