It was a lovely warm but very blowy day for the Still Cup Semi-Finals at Thurlestone Golf Club as the teams gathered for an afternoon of quality scratch matchplay. The wind certainly added to the challenge facing the players, making club selection rather interesting.
The first semi-final was between Torquay and Teignmouth and there was a real buzz on the first tee about this battle. Although the Torquay players dug deep, the Teignmouth team proved the stronger on this occasion with wins for Hannah Reynolds, Lorna Elliott, Sally Tyler and Hannah Stephens. Those four results meant the match win for Teignmouth with the other three games called in – one of them being the first game out between Keeley Clarke of Torquay and Teignmouth’s Susie Carr, which was still all square going down the 20th!

Dainton Park played Okehampton in the second semi-final and this was another great match with some excellent results. The first game win came for Okehampton courtesy of Abby Turner, followed by a Dainton Park win for Julie Winsor. Charlotte Husband won her game for Dainton Park as did Amanda Leonard for Okehampton, giving two games a piece. The Okehampton team then pushed through to take the match with wins for Penny Deakin and Marcia Collett.

When all the teams were back in the clubhouse Thurlestone Lady Captain Pam Adams welcomed everyone before congratulating the winners Teignmouth and Okehampton. They will meet on Inter-Club Finals Day on 27th September. This is extra special for Teignmouth in their centenary year and another great result for Okehampton, the current holders of the Still Cup.
DevonGolf President Pam St Leger then presented the semi-finalist trophies to Torquay Lady Captain Laura Colman and Dainton Park Still Cup Team Captain Charlotte Husband, huge congratulations to both teams for reaching this stage of the competition.
My thanks go to Thurlestone Golf Club for hosting the day. Thanks to General Manager Jason and his office staff for their help with planning and, on the day, to the Greens Staff and the Pro Shop and to the bar and kitchen staff who worked hard to keep us all fed and watered and provided a fantastic buffet. Special thanks to Lady Captain Pam for such a warm welcome and to her team for their invaluable help with ball spotting. My grateful thanks also to DevonGolf President Pam St Leger who acted as Starter and then joined referee Terry Hembrow on the course.
