The Warren Golf Club hosted the Division 1 and Division 2 County Medals on 22nd April 2024. As always, The Warren staff in every department exceeded expectations on the course and in the clubhouse. Head Greenkeeper Sam Dunn and his staff had prepared the course after the very wet winter and the speediest of greens kept all ladies on their putting toes. The lovely log burner in the clubhouse was very welcome after the wind plus a rain shower and Sally and Graham fed and watered some very grateful golfers. Special mention to the Warren ladies who spent many hours ball spotting - every golfer was very grateful and their services were much used.
Division 1 had representatives from 27 clubs across the county. Those playing had qualified in 2023 with the lowest aggregate nett score of the best 3 qualifying medal scores at their home club. DevonGolf's Competition Director Tim Aggett had the chilly job of starter and Ann Hazelwood (14) from The Warren led the field with Fiona Carpenter (14) from Teign Valley. Ann's nett 80 set the pace and as the day went on it seemed like a winning number as 5 other ladies also posted a nett 80. But, as is often the way, one of the last ladies out, Rosamund Kikidas (9) from Yelverton, posted a nett 74 to take the Silver Medal. For all Division 1 results click here
The 28 ladies in Division 2 had the colder and wetter weather with which to contend. Claire Guard (22) from Thurlestone posted an early nett 79 which seemed a good score but almost immediately Jing Li (19) from Tiverton posted a nett 71. Knowing the Division 1 winner's score was a nett 74, the buzz in the clubhouse was Jing Li had it in the bag. However, it was the back of the field that again posted the surprises and Kaz Simpson (23) from The Warren had a nett 70 but her playing partner Karin Cox (26 - Axe Cliff), fresh from her success in the Division 2 County Stableford finals at Exeter Golf & Country Club last week, posted a nett 68 to take the beautiful bronze medal and salver back to her club.
