DEVONGOLF WOMEN'S BOWMAKER - HOLSWORTHY GOLF CLUB

The annual Women's Bowmaker was held at Holsworthy Golf Club, rearranged from the previous week due to the much publicised Storm Agnes. The day started with a few rogue showers but eventually the sun came out. The course was playing very tough due to the very wet weather we have all experienced of late, as evident by the low scoring results.

The home team consisting of Ely Walmsley, Nicky Williams and Jackie Kirby were the eventual winners of the Bowmaker Cup with 74 points. Jackie, this year’s Ladies' Vice-Captain at the club, started the field followed by Sylvia Saunter. I heard Jackie telling the women to keep to the fairway - Jackie obviously took heed of her own advice.

No-one in the field got a 2 so the cards were drawn.

A big thank you to Holsworthy Golf Club, Lady Captain Sallie Jago and Vice-Captain Jackie for all their help and assistance, to Jackie in the pro shop who oversaw the 2’s entries, the catering staff for ensuring all the competitors were well fed and always with a cheerful smile. Credit to the greens staff who managed to keep the course in a playable condition regardless of the recent inclement weather. Finally, thanks to Jean Yeo who did a lovely flower arrangement to complement the prize table.

A huge thank you to Colleen Skornia who has been the Women's Competitions Secretary for the last 3 years - a completely voluntary position - giving up much of her own time to ensure the smooth running of the many women's competitions around the county. Colleen has run a tight ship and we wish her well for the future.
