WOMEN'S WESTERN MORNING NEWS ROSE BOWL - SOUTH & WEST

Torquay Golf club was the venue of this year's DevonGolf Foursomes Stableford and Western Morning News Rose Bowl for clubs in the south and west of the county.

This event is the sister competition to the Western Morning News Cup held for clubs in the North and East of the County which was held at Okehampton the previous week. As many pairs as a club wishes to send may enter this competition to win the monetary prizes. But play is also for the Western Morning News Rose Bowl and to win this lovely trophy requires the Women's Captain to nominate 3 pairs from her club (unbeknown to the pairings she has picked) and the best aggregate of 2 of the 3 scores count to win the trophy. If a club only has 2 pairings entered then they could still win the trophy, but it's a slightly tougher ask.

This year's event proved very popular, with 134 ladies competing from 14 clubs.

Thanks to Liz Turner (DevonGolf Handicap Adviser) who was the starter on the 1st tee, a nice place to be as the day was one of the best weather-wise this summer with glorious sunshine. 

A big thank you must go to Lady Captain Sue Arnold who helped with all the organisation of the day. These competitions would not be the successs they are without the amazing support from the clubs' Lady Captains and members. 

The greenkeepers and Club Manager did a wonderful job clearing the course from the aftermath of Storm Antoni over the weekend to produce a superb course in a lovely playing condition.

Needless to say, with 134 ladies the catering and bar staff had their work cut out and did a wonderful job throughout the day.

The first pairing out, Sarah Thomas and Teresa Barrett (Warren Golf Club), laid down the gauntlet with a magnificent score of 43 points. Another good score of 36 points from Mary Dummett and Frances Lewes-Palmer meant the Warren Golf Club were this year's winners of the Western Morning News Rose Bowl.
