CONGRATULATIONS SOPHIE PAGE

Congratulations to DevonGolf's Girls and Women's team member Sophie Page (East Devon). Sophie is the DevonGolf Girls U18 team captain this year.

Sophie played in the Welsh Girls' Championship at Cardigan Golf Club. Play began on Sunday, 23rd July with 18 holes of stroke play and Sophie finished in 1st place shooting 1 under par 72, 6 shots ahead of Annabel Collis (Mold) and 7 ahead of Elin Tynan (Minchinhampton). Monday's day 2 of stroke play, to win through to the final 16 and the matchplay stages, saw Sophie struggle a little, shooting 83 and putting her in second place overall with a 155 over the 36 holes. Annabel Collis took the lead with a second round of 76 for a 154 total. Elin Tynan held on to her 3rd place with a 2nd round 84 for a 163 total. For all day 2 results click here

Reaching the top 16 in second place was a great achievement for Sophie. She had a bye in the morning and was drawn to play Hollie Jenkins (Milford Haven) in the afternoon's quarter finals. Sophie played well, beating Hollie Jenkins 4-2 to reach the semi final. Sophie was drawn against Elin Tynan in the semi-final. Elin had played a mammoth match the day before against Nel Allen, winning on 20th hole to play Sophie for a place in the final. Sophie played a great game but Elin proved too strong and went on the play Annabel Collis in the final losing 2-1. Congratulations to Annabel. For all matchplay results click here

Sophie is not new to the Welsh Girls' Championship. In 2021 she became the U16 Welsh Girls' Champion, winning both the U16 gross and nett competitions. 

DevonGolf is extremely proud of Sophie who is currently at Hartpury College. Sophie works hard on her game and is a supportive member of the DevonGolf Girls' and Women's teams - she is a fantastic role model for other young golfers in Devon.
