SHEELAH CREASY BOWL QUARTER FINALS 2022

Friday, 5th August marked the beginning of the knockout stages of our women's inter-club competitions with the Sheelah Creasy Bowl Quarter-Finals at Staddon Heights Golf Club. It was a lovely sunny day with a breeze keeping the ladies cool earlier on, the atmosphere was buzzing in the clubhouse as we got ready for a great day of golf. The very dry conditions certainly gave everyone an extra challenge on the course, particularly over the last few holes.

The first match was Wrangaton against Tiverton and, after a good battle, Wrangaton took the match. Thurlestone and Honiton then had a very close match which was eventually decided when game 7 went down the 19th resulting in a win to Honiton. There was another 19th hole finish in the first game of the third match between Teignmouth and Sidmouth, Teignmouth proving the stronger side on the day and taking the overall win. The last quarter final was between East Devon and Ilfracombe and this was a very exciting end to the day with 3 games a piece before Ilfracombe took the victory in the last game. 

The winners will face each other in the semi-finals on 5th September at Yelverton Golf Club - Teignmouth v Wrangaton followed by Ilfracombe v Honiton.

My thanks to our host club Staddon Heights, to Manager Nick, the Pro Shop and greens staff and the bar and kitchen staff. Lady Captain Jane and her ladies who helped on the day gave me and the teams a lovely welcome and really made the day special,. Thank you for your hard work on starter duties and also ball spotting. Thanks also to the referees Jane Summers and Lorna Brown.

Congratulations to all the women who took part and played some great, competitive golf in a very friendly atmosphere as always.
