DEVON GIRLS' SOUTH WEST INTER-COUNTIES 2022

Hannah Stephens, Girls' 18s Team Manager reports:

I’m very pleased to announce the Devon Girls' South West Inter-Counties' Team for 2022. It was not as easy a selection process as it has been in previous years, which is a fantastic sign that the numbers and standards of girls involved with DevonGolf is well and truly on the up  - and I hope this continues.

The team:

Rosie Arnold - Bovey Tracey Golf Club
Susie Carr - Exminster Golf Club
Ruby Davis - Saunton Golf Club
Chloe Hall - Exeter Golf & Country Club
Carys Morris - Tiverton & Portmore Golf Clubs
Gudrun Nolan - East Devon Golf Club
Sophie Page - East Devon Golf Club
Hannah Reynolds - Exeter Golf & Country Club
Belle Tarr - Churston Golf Club
Flossy Voaden - Exeter Golf & Country Club

The team will be led by Cary Morris (Devon Girls' Captain 2022) of Tiverton and Portmore Golf Clubs. Carys has well and truly led the team from the front this season, not only with her improving game but also with the 72 Hole Challenge she completed to raise funds for the squad. Supported by other squad members, Carys completed the challenge and raised an amazing sum of money for the team fund, a fantastic legacy in her last season for the DevonGolf U18s squad.

Special mention also goes out to Susie Carr who excelled in the Devon Golf Girls' Championship at Bigbury on Friday to become one of the youngest ever champions and making a clean sweep of the silverware by winning the championship overall, as well as the Nett and U15s category.

The girls are playing just down the road at Carlyon Bay Golf Club between Monday, 8th August and Wednesday, 10th August. The competition sees them pitted against the 5 other counties of the South West - Somerset, Gloucestershire, Cornwall, Wiltshire and Dorset in a series of foursomes and singles matchplay.

Last year we came so close to victory, missing out by just a ½ point! Needless to say, we are hoping to go one better this year but, most importantly, play well and have fun!! We really do have some truly talented golfers in the team, the most fantastic team spirit and some very dedicated supporters so do come along and see it for yourselves.

The girls have been working hard all season on their games with coaching from the DevonGolf Girls' County Coach Jon Axford of Teignmouth Golf Club and Assistant Coach Chris Honeywell of Exeter Golf & Country Club.

They have had some great success in their practice matches, beating Somerset 4-1 and very narrowly losing to the Devon U16 boys at Woodbury 3-2 with a team full of new squad members.

So, if you want to see some truly inspiring golf and come and support the Devon girls. We would absolutely love to see you there to support us - your support could just make that ½ point difference!!
