EVERY DAY IS A SCHOOL DAY!

The Women's First and Second teams have now been merged under the direction of Sarah Hoff, Women's Team Manager and Vicky Holloway, Second Team Manager.

Sarah arranged a Rules Workshop at Exeter Golf and Country Club for the women's squad and for Hannah Stephens, the U18s Girls' Team Manager, and her girls.

Devon is a large county and players came from far and wide to attend. Our very own Rules Guru, Claire Dowling, had agreed to run this special workshop. For those who don’t know Claire, she was one of the best golfers of her generation winning 5 Irish championships and selected for 4 Curtis Cup teams, captaining 3 of them. She has won everything there is to win at amateur level and now plays just for fun. Claire is one of the country’s top referees and is regularly invited to referee at top events. wherever they may take her and husband Peter who is a top-class referee in his own right. Claire served on the R & A Rules Committee along with representatives from various parts of the world and had a key role in reviewing and writing the new rules of golf we use today. 

It was a great honour to have Claire taking the time to share her knowledge and experience with the DevonGolf women and girls' squads. She is an incredibly inspiring person and, from the very beginning, succeeded in putting everyone at their ease. After a very interesting and informative presentation, the players immediately felt they could ask her all sorts of questions, however bizarre they may have seemed. After lunch, with the women and girls working in pairs, they were given a multiple-choice rules quiz to complete (for fun!). On their return, the room was set up with many scenarios, simulating bunkers, rivers, paths, leaves, you name it we had it! It was then that Claire, ably assisted by husband Peter, went through numerous scenarios with everyone being asked to apply what they had learned in the morning session. Rules on their own can appear dull - but not on this day - they were delivered in such a way as to make them relevant and important.

A massive thank you to Claire and Peter for running this Rules Workshop for the DevonGolf women and girls and to Exeter Golf & Country Club for hosting. Everyone who attended benefitted from Claire and Peter's expertise and will be more familiar and confident in applying the rules of golf whenever they play.
