EAST DEVON WOMEN IN SPAIN FINAL

East Devon women entered the Annodata UK Golf Club Classic in spring of this year. Each match has 5 players and is matchplay knockout format,The team have been represented by Helen Chivers, Jenny Dobel, Jo Goldsworthy, Sue Harrison, Nina Hawkins, Sarah Jones, Sue Loynes, Deirdre Mackness, Ali Miller, Judy Murray & Sally Underwood and captained by Sue Burley. 

The first round began with an away match at Woodbury Park Golf & Country Club and the East Devon team posted a 4-1 win. Axe Cliff Golf Club visited East Devon for the second round and the home advantage saw another 4-1 win. Round 3 was again at home and proved too much for Saunton Golf Club women as the East Devon team posted a 5-0 win. Luck of the draw stayed with East Devon as round 4 also gifted a home match bringing China Fleet over the Devon border, but their travels were in vain as they lost 4½-½. Round 5 saw the team from St Mellion Golf & Country Club travel to East Devon but now, well into their stride, the East Devon women won 5-0. 

Having polished off the Devon and Cornwall opposition, round 6 saw the East Devon team welcome Romsey Golf Club to Devon, sealing another 5-0 win. The 7th round, the last in the UK, was an away draw at Weybrook Park Golf Club, Basingstoke. The stakes were high and so were the nerves as, with 2 games each, it was down to the final game which finally finished on the 17th green in East Devon’s favour. The ladies, caddies & supporters erupted!

Spain here we come. Olé, Olé, Olé! 

The East Devon team will be travelling to the Annodata UK Golf Club Classic Final, proudly representing their club and DevonGolf next March at the Montecastillo Golf Resort in Spain.
