SHEELAH CREASY BOWL SEMI FINALS 2021

The Sheelah Creasy Bowl Semi-Finals were held at Teign Valley Golf Club on 17th September on a sunny day with the course in fantastic condition.

The first match was between Teignmouth Golf Club and East Devon Golf Club, with both teams keen to take on the challenge. East Devon took an early win in game 1, followed by wins in games 2 & 3 for Teignmouth. Players and supporters gathered to watch game 4 being played down the 18th for a nail-biting finish and another win for Teignmouth which gave them the match. Game 5 was then called in, this had also been a very close game being all square after 17 holes.

The second match was between Axe Cliff Golf Club and Wrangaton Golf Club and proved to be very exciting. Axe Cliff won the first two games and seemed to be in the stronger position but the Wrangaton women dug deep and won games 3, 4 and 5 to take the match. Teignmouth will now play Wrangaton in the Sheelah Creasy Bowl Final at Royal North Devon Golf Club on Friday, 1st October.

After a warm welcome to Teign Valley from past Lady Captain Jane MacDonald-Smith, semi-finalist trophies were presented to Lady Captain Barbara Middleditch on behalf of the East Devon ladies and Team Captain Paula Heasman on behalf of the Axe Cliff ladies – congratulations to both teams for reaching the last four of the competition.

My thanks to Teign Valley Golf Club for hosting us, thanks to Nicola for her help with planning, James in the Pro Shop, Fleur in the bar and Lucy from the Greens Staff who helped all day.  Special thanks to Jane MacDonald-Smith who welcomed us to the club and acted as a referee alongside our other referees Kate Field and Nigel Hoskins.
