PORTMORE IN BASIL STEER TROPHY TRIUMPH 2021

The battle for the Basil Steer Trophy had a later start this year due to Covid. Teams from Saunton, Royal North Devon, Stover, Dainton Park, Woodbury Park, Honiton, Boringdon Park, Thurlestone, Portmore, Tiverton, Exminster, East Devon, Exeter, Downes Crediton, Staddon Heights and Churston competed.

The second round was played on 1st August, leading to the semi-finals when Dainton Park played Woodbury Park at Downes Crediton and Portmore played Staddon Heights at Woodbury Park. Portmore and Woodbury Park were the semi-finals winners and the final was held at Bovey Castle  alongside the men's Parker Trophy final.

Playing for the Portmore team on Finals Day was Carys Morris (a member of the DevonGolf Women's Second Squad), Toby Clarke and Nathan Ware. Woodbury Park fielded Harrison Drinkell, Joe Farmer and Jack Thorpe (a member of the DevonGolf U14 Boys' team).

It was a 7-6 win for Portmore's Toby Clarke v Harrison Drinkell. Jack Thorpe (Woodbury Park) evened things up with a win by 1 hole against Nathan Ware. So it was all down to the final match with Woodbury Park's Joe  Farmer v Carys  Morris (Portmore). Carys Morris was 4 up with 5 to play but Joe was down but definitely not out. They ended up all square on the 18th - only for Carys to hole a 25-foot putt on the last green to make par and give Portmore a 2-1 victory.

Congratulations to runners-up Woodbury Park Golf Club and winners Portmore Golf Club.
