DEVON GOLF

DAY 4 - SOUTH WEST MEN'S INTER-COUNTIES

After a disappointing day in the 36 -hole Singles qualifier, although Eliot Baker (Tiverton) completed his rounds just 1 over par to finish in 5th place, Devon showed a remarkable bounce back against Day 4 opponent's Somerset.

It was good morning's Singles for the team on Day 4 with Sam Dunn (Warren) narrowly losing 2-1. Craig Passmore (Torquay) won by 1 hole, Jack Pope (Exeter) won 3-2, Lewis Beer (Exeter) won 4-3 and Eliot Baker (Tiverton) won with a fine 5-4. Pete Lawrence (Woodbury Park) fought hard but lost by 2 holes and Matt Millar (Dainton Park) won 2-1. Ben Sclater (Warren) won 2-1 giving a singles total in Devon's favour of 6-2. A head start for the afternoon's Foursomes matches.

A lot of golf has been played this week and some tired bodies had to rally for the afternoon's Foursomes matches with Craig Passmore & Matt Millar winning 3-2, Pete Lawrence  & Lewis Beer winning 2-1 and Eliot Baker  & Thomas Woodhouse winning by 1 hole. It was a tougher shout for Sam Dunn & Jack Pope who lost 4-3. The afternoon finished with a Foursomes total in Devon's favour of 4½-1½.  In the Foursomes matches a win = 1½ (1.5) points and a halved match is ¾ (0.75).

At the end of play, the table was looking pretty good from Devon's point of view. Gloucestershire, who have been strong throughout, are only marginally ahead of Devon and all to play for.

Day 5 sees Devon play Dorset.
