HARRY KONIG CONTINUES TO SHINE

Devon’s Harry Konig has finished the 54-hole Big Easy Tour event at Modderfontein Golf Club tied 3rd with Jason Froneman (RSA), just 1 shot off the winner Keelan Van Wyk (RSA) who beat Ricky Hendler (RSA) in a play-off. Van Wyk and Hendler finished 10 under par and Harry and Froneman were 9 under.

Day 1 was a great day for Harry with a 6 under par round to tie for first place. His 5 birdies and 4 pars on the more difficult back 9 certainly helped.

Day 2 saw Harry keeping his form with another 6 under par score, leaving him top of the leader board 12 under par, 1 shot ahead of playing partner Ricky Hendler (RSA) and Keelan Van Wyk (RSA) who were both 11 under. Harry, Hendler and Van Wyk were playing together for the final round the next day.

The final day proved to be tough with torrential rain taking its toll on the field, only 4 of the 42 players who made the cut managing rounds below par. It was not a great start for Harry with a double bogey on the opening hole and he reached the turn 3 over par, placing him 2 shots behind the leader at the half way stage. Harry’s 2 birdies on the next 3 holes gave him back a share of the lead at 11 under. He kept his share of the lead until the 17th when he shot a double bogey to finish the round with a 3 over 75,

It was a disappointing finish for Harry, golf can be cruel, but a top 3 finish is a great result. He takes lots of positives from the competition, not least his move 5 places up the Order of Merit table.
