SAFEGOLF UNITES GOLFERS

SafeGolf is a subject which unites everyone in our sport. Put simply, there is nothing more important than safeguarding young people and vulnerable groups involved in our great game. That’s why England Golf has compiled an instructional video to help your club or county become SafeGolf accredited in six simple steps.

The video link that can be accesssed here takes you through all the strands of accreditation and gives you a step-by-step guide to achieving SafeGolf status.

Two step by step guides also accompany the video, providing simple steps to get your club through recruiting a Club Welfare Officer (CWO) and the accreditation process as a whole.

For those clubs who are already on the path to SafeGolf, may I thank you for your efforts and encourage you to push on and get over the line. If you have yet to make a start, I would urge you to watch the video and begin the process immediately. At England Golf, ensuring our clubs and counties are SafeGolf accredited is a fundamental pillar of EG's core strategy.

Initially, EG have asked clubs and counties to be SafeGolf accredited by 31 January 2021. As a result of the unprecedented disruption to all our lives in 2020 and the logistical problem of hosting the required number of safeguarding courses online, we have pushed back this date to 31 March 2021. However, the changing of the deadline does not alter the level of importance we place on safeguarding.

Complying with SafeGolf is not merely an aspiration. From 2021 it will become a mandatory requirement for all clubs and counties wishing to affiliate to England Golf. By becoming a SafeGolf club or county you will have clearly demonstrated a willingness to look after your staff and members by putting in place a standardised, recognised and robust system that prioritises younger and more at risk categories of golfers. This should be a basic commitment we are proud to make on behalf of our clubs and counties.

By working on this together we can make our beloved game safer for everyone to enjoy.
