WELCOME SARAH HOFF - WOMEN'S FIRST TEAM MANAGER

Sarah Hoff - Women's First Team Manager

Sarah joined Stover Golf club at a young age in the year her father was Club Captain. 41 years later she is still a full-time member! When Sarah began playing, the first handicap she was given was 60. In fact, she had no real desire to start golf at all as she was already playing lots of other sports outside of school and golf wasn’t a game she particularly wanted to play. Thankfully her father, who was a strong sportsman, had other ideas and persuaded her to accompany him to the local recreation ground to hit a few balls. After a few successful shots that was it, Sarah was hooked. Stover Golf Club had a strong junior section with lots of boys and 3 girls. She attended the group coaching on a Saturday morning every week and played junior competitions on a Monday evening throughout the summer. Sarah represented Stover at junior level and was fortunate to go to Sweden on a golf exchange. She was the Juniors’ Captain in that year and ended up giving the winning speech in Swedish!  Sport is her passion and she is proud to have played county golf since the age of 14. Sarah says, "I received junior county coaching and remember my mum driving me up to Tavistock for my group coaching, rain or shine, on a Sunday morning. My commitment was strong and it still is today."

Sarah has represented Devon at junior level, both for the women’s second and first teams and now, more recently, the Devon Senior Ladies. Her most notable success was part of that team in October 2019 when the Devon Ladies’ Senior (over 50) team won the South West Inter-Counties event, hosted this year by Devon and Torquay Golf Club. Sarah recalls, "It was a brilliant occasion and I can only hope that just like the inspiring European Solheim Cup success, I am able to manage a very talented DevonGolf team and help them find the success they deserve. I am proud to follow on as Women’s First Team Manager from Sally Charnock, whom I have played alongside in the pale blue of Devon. I will endeavour to raise the profile of the county team and sincerely hope that I can encourage supporters to fly the Devon flag and support us at any county match, but in particular the South West Inter-Counties' competition which is to be held in Dorset from Monday 29th June to Wednesday 1st July 2020 at Dudsbury Golf Club. It would be wonderful if people would take the time to come and line the fairways and cheer for Devon as it really does help bolster team spirit."

DevonGolf wishes Sarah and the Women's First Team every success in 2020.
