DEVONGOLF
On a overcast day the rolling links of Perranporth GC was playing hosts to the latest Men's 1st Team match aginst Cornwall.
With a couple of late withdrawals through illness and injury Devon still fielded a strong experienced team.
The morning foursomes went in Devon's favour with wins for top pair Jake Burnage and Craig Passmore, Jack Pope and Lewis Beer. In a a tight match the Scott brothers, Bradley and Jay held their nerve to see out the final foursomes game.
The afternoon singles got off to a disappointing start with our top two players loosing their points. In Jake Burnage's defence he had driven over 400 miles to play in has last County match after being part or the winning England team at the Home Internationals. Such tremendous commitment. Also came up against Home Club player where local knowledge plays a big part.
Bradley Scott the recently West of England Champion secured his point. Sam Dunn who despite being -5 lost on the 18th. The ever dependable Jack Pope had a rousing 6&5 victory to continue his fine season. We then lost the next 3 games which sealed defeat and Cornwall winning the match. There were wins for Adam Bridgewater and Leigh Jones in matches 9 & 10. Final match score 8-7 to our friends across the border Cornwall. As always all the games were played in great spirit.
Jake Burnage played his last County match today as he will be turning Professional and going to the European Tour School trying to claim his playing rights. We wish you all the success in the next phase of your career.
Adam Bridgewater will be taking a break from golf, therefore played his last competitive game after 20 years loyal service to DevonGolf. (Great dedication)
