BOYS AND GIRLS JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP

DevonGolf Junior Championships

Libbaton Golf Course was the venue for this prestigious junior boys' and girls' event. Qualification to enter this event was by being in the top 12 of the Order of Merit for the under 14, under 16 and under 18 age groups. The boys played 36 holes and the girls 18 holes.

Our Joint County Presidents Carolyn Maynard and Richard Pascoe were starters for the day. Carolyn started our first contestants of the day off at 8.30am with Richard supporting the running of the competition in the morning before taking over the starting duties of the second round for the boys. The weather did not let us down and we were lucky enough to have wall to wall sunshine all day.

Libbaton Golf Course was in a lovely condition and proved very worthy of this event with some very challenging holes which was probably the reason why only 2 cards were recorded with under par rounds, one of these being our very much in form DevonGolf County Champion - Matt Miller from Dainton Golf Club.

Jo Donmall  (DevonGolf Girls’ Junior Organiser) and Joint County President Carolyn Maynard presented the trophies, vouchers and Order of Merit prizes to the girls following the completion of their round. Although the field for girls was relatively small, it certainly produced quality golf and some future talent to be watched.

The Scratch Junior Champion Lauren McGinnis (Churston Golf Club) carded a round of gross 78.  The Handicap Junior Champion Carys Morris (Portmore Golf Club) scored a net 73, winning on a better back 9 from Lauren McGinnis.

Thanks must go to Libbaton Golf Club members who helped with car parking, spotting balls and anything to make us welcome. The bar and catering staff did everything to meet the demands of all the competitors and organisers and made sure we were fed and watered through the day, and finally the green keeping staff for the lovely condition of the course.
