STILL CUP SEMI-FINALS - THURLESTONE GOLF CLUB
We were finally blessed with perfect golfing weather for this year’s Still Cup Semi-Finals at Thurlestone on 22nd August. The ladies arrived in good time, ready to play some top class golf to secure a coveted place in the final. County Captain Anne Norman was on the first tee to send all the ladies on their way and it was great to see a good number of supporters out on the course enjoying the great golf and wonderful views.
The first match out was Stover versus Torquay, Torquay having won the Still Cup for the past 3 years. Torquay took the first win in game 1, followed by a win for Stover in game 4. There was some excellent golf being played by all the ladies but it was Torquay who secured wins in games 2, 3 and 5 to take the match, with games 6 and 7 called in.
Saunton and Tavistock played another closely fought match with the excitement building right to the end of all 7 games. The first 3 games were won by Saunton who then just needed 1 more to take the match, but the Tavistock ladies dug deep and won the remaining 4 games to secure the victory in game 7 on the 18th green.
Torquay will now play Tavistock in the Still Cup Final at Yelverton on 27th September.
We rounded off the day with the presentation of semi-finalist trophies to Team Captain Angie Hickey on behalf of Stover Golf Club and Lady Captain Annie Saunders on behalf of Saunton Golf Club. Congratulations to Stover and Saunton ladies on reaching this stage of the competition.
My thanks go to Thurlestone Golf Club for hosting us, to Manager Simon Bawden for his help with the planning and Lady Captain Lesley Saffin for all her help on the day. Then there were the ladies who helped with ball spotting, the greens staff, the Pro Shop staff and to the bar and catering staff - my thanks to them all. Finally, thanks also to County Captain Anne and our Rules Officials Terry and Gill.
