DEVONGOLF
DevonGolf U18's played Cornwall in the Roy Greenaway Trophy at Staddon Heights Golf Club on 21st August 2019.
The Devon team was a mixture of experience and new talent with four boys making their debut - Jack Parry, Haydon McCance, Ben Reynolds and Ollie Amos.
The team players were Craig Passmore (Torquay), James Reed (Exeter), Jack Jeffery (Exeter), Eliot Baker (Fingle Glen), Chris Greenberry (Stover), Scott Acheson (East Devon), Ben Reynolds (Exeter), Ollie Amos (Stover), Haydon McCance (Honiton) and Jack Parry (Exeter).
At lunch after the foursomes the honours were even at 2½-2½.
In the afternoon the experience of our top order players came through as we secured 4½ points from the first 6 matches. Scott Acheson’s match was all square going up the last when his opponent birdied the last - only for Scott to roll his putt in for a birdie and with it the half! The winning point came from 14 year old debutant Ollie Amos who won his match 3-2. A further ½ point came from Jack Parry, another debutant, making the final match score 8½-6.½. This was a fine win against our old rivals but the matches were played with great spirit. The result means Devon retains the Roy Greenaway Trophy.
I would like to say a big thank to Staddon Heights for their hospitality and presenting the golf course so beautifully. And, if I may, I would like to add that the changes that Staddon Heights have implemented to their golf course are very good indeed.
We are now looking forward to the England Golf Boys' County Finals at North Foreland Golf Club, Kent, on 27th-29th August.
Well done team!
