DEVONGOLF
THE WESTERN MORNING NEWS TROPHY - TIVERTON GOLF CLUB - 2nd August 2019
It was a dry, warm and sunny day where shade was keenly sought wherever possible. County Captain, Anne Norman, standing in for County President Carolyn Maynard, was at the 1st tee just after 9 o’clock when Fingle Glen and Axe Cliff, in club colours, began their Foursomes Stableford round.
There were 128 ladies from 16 clubs from the north and eastern divisions of the county playing for the WMN Cup which had been presented by The Western Morning News to the County in 1936. The first pairings were soon reappearing in the clubhouse ready to enjoy a sit down and some well-earned tasty refreshment. It wasn’t long before most of the tables and chairs inside and outside on the patio were full.
By 4:30pm the last players were in and the scores were being checked, recorded, added up and worked out whilst the anticipation was gradually rising within the clubhouse. The waiting was soon over and as a hush fell just before 5pm, the prize-giving was started when Maureen Postles, Lady Captain of Tiverton Golf Club welcomed DevonGolf and all the ladies. It was then over to Anne Norman to present the prizes.
