U16s v CORNWALL

Sunday 19th May 2019 saw DevonGolf's U16s travel to Truro Golf Club.

With the Under 16s Captain Fred Bishop (Exeter) and team regular Scott Acheson (East Devon) both unavailable due to exam commitments, it gave us the chance to play some of our other squad members who had been showing good early season form. With a 9.30am tee off at Truro it was a very early start for us but all arrived in good spirits and raring to go. With teams of 8 it was 18 holes of scratch foursomes matchplay in the morning and 18 of scratch singles matchplay in the afternoon.

DevonGolf kept up their strong record in the foursomes with a 3½ to ½ lead at lunch with the pairings of David Baldwin (Tiverton) and Max Parsons (Exeter), Ben Reynolds (Exeter) and Jack Parry (Exeter) and Ollie Carnell (Exminster) and Ollie Amos (Stover) all recording wins and Ethan Jeffrey (RND) and Sammy Ingham (Thurlestone) recording a halved match.

Needing just 3 points from the afternoon singles to record an overall win, things were looking decidedly dicey through 9 holes with Ben Reynolds and Jack Parry the only DevonGolf lads not to be behind. After a quick pep talk from the manager at the turn all came back in their matches and really showed their fighting spirit. Max Parsons and Ollie Carnell turned around 2 hole deficits to score 2&1 victories and Ollie Amos, at one point 3 down, fought back to win his match 2&1. With Ben Reynolds recording  a 2 up victory and Jack Parry halving his match, it meant that the DevonGolf boys had won the afternoon session 4½ to 3½ and had an 8-4 overall victory and a great start to our defence of the Ben Enoch Trophy
