Adam Bridgewater retains SW of England Mid Am - Dartmoor Trophy

The field which assembled at Teignmouth Golf Club were faced with a superbly presented golf course in immaculate condition, but with some tough pin positions for the day and a steadily increasing breeze from the south throughout the event.

Despite the worst of possible starts Tavistock’s Adam Bridgewater established the early lead with 71, giving him a 2-shot lead over Churston’s Rick Osborne with Mike Copperwhite of Stover and Geoff Roberts of South Herts on 74.

Even with the strengthening breeze there were 5 scores of 71 in the afternoon round, but Adam produced one of those to end any chance of being caught and to successfully defend his title, winning by 4 shots as the other early challengers fell back.

Tom Woodhouse from Exeter added a 71 to his morning 75 for 2nd place overall, one shot ahead of the host club’s Dave Best, who beat Torquay’s Pete Bicknell for 3rd spot on countback after both scored 76 and 71 for 147. Colin Nolan of Yelverton was awarded 5th spot after scores of 75 and 73.

Exeter’s Colin Papworth took the handicap prize with a 36-hole total of net 144 from his handicap of 2, 1 ahead of Steve Watton from Enfield, also 2 handicap. Rick took the A.M gross prize for his score of 73, Tim Aggett from the Warren the P.M gross prize for 72.
