Day 2 at Cumberwell Park - Joint President Richard Pascoe (centre) |
It was a tough day for the boys on Day 2, Monday, at Cumberwell Park. They were drawn to play against Somerset and it proved to be a day that didn't yield the results for which we had hoped.
First up in the singles was Harrison Greenberry (Exeter) who lost by 1 hole to Somerset's Will Poole (Mendip). Staddon Height's George Bryant reversed our fortunes by beating Alister Balcombe of Clevedon by 1 hole. Honours even. Bradley Scott (Tiverton) was even more convincing by beating Taylor Stoke (Enmore) 2 & 1. However, Peter Lawrence (Woodbury Park) fared less well against Jonathan Grace of Saltford with Jonathan winning 4 & 2. James Thompson (Torquay) stemmed the tide halving his match against Sam Fernley of Burnham & Berrow. Sadly, though, Adam Bridgewater (Tavistock) against Phil White (Burnham & Berrow) and Dan Rosevear (Yelverton) v Craig Adams (Farringdon) both lost 6 & 5. We finished the morning's play 4.5 - 3.5.
The afternoon is a different beast and Foursomes is the format thought by many to be the true test of golf. Peter Lawrence (Woodbury) & Jake Burnage (Saunton) made a great pairing to bring home a half. George Bryant (Staddon Heights) & Bradley Scott (Tiverton), James Thompson (Torquay) & Adam Bridgewater (Tavistock) and Harrison Greenberry (Exeter) & Chris McGill (Warren) all lost - leaving us with an afternoon's score of 5.25 - 0.75.
Now lying 5th in the table after 2 days' play, Devon will be looking for a fightback on Day 3.
