The Men's Elite Team played the second leg against Cornwall at Yelverton Golf Club which was in fine fettle and with all its' moorland charm.

Bunker Hazard
Ben Sclater

Morning Foursomes
Sam Dunn (Warren) & Jack Pope (Exeter) played some good golf early on against Stephens & Faulkner and struggled to shake off their young opponents, but pulled through to win 2-1. Peter Lawrence (Woodbury Park) teamed up with Lewis Beer (Exeter) against the experienced pair of Jasper & Greenaway. The match was tight all the way but the DevonGolf pair held on to win 1 up. The third pairing of Ben Sclater (Warren) and the returning Ben Sandry (Woodbury Park), who both started at Exeter Golf & Country Club as juniors, proved too strong for Richards & Hancock winning 4-3. Chris McGill (Warren) paired with the Navy Reserve Fred Bishop (Exeter) to play awesome golf and beat Champion & McHugh convincingly 6-4. The final pairing, George Robinson (Exeter) & Jack Jeffery (Exeter) played Grootze & former DevonGolf Elite Team Member Adam Bridgewater.  It was an evenly contested match and the Devon pair managed to grind out a 2-1 victory. Credit must go to Robinson who played in pain after pulling his back on the 1st green.

The Foursomes score was 5-0 in Devon's favour.

Ben Sandry

The Afternoon's Singles
Dunn played the recent winner of the prestigious Goodman Salver Richards, who quickly ran into a big lead after 9 holes. Dunn eventually lost 4-3 along with his unbeaten record. The ever-dependable Pope was far too consistent for Champion and won 4-3. Sandry, playing for the county after a 25-year absence, played some sparkling golf with Faulkner matching him. It was a 2-1 loss for Sandry, despite being 2 under par. Bishop, who was striking the ball superbly all day, was too strong for McHugh and won 3-2. Lawrence came up against Jasper, two very experienced players in a very tight match. The evergreen Lawrence held on to win 2-1 and stay unbeaten for the season. McGill played Bridgewater in a game which saw some fine golf played by both players but McGill went down 2-1. Beer took on young Stephens who's been having a fine season in an evenly contested game which Beer won 2-1. Jeffery had a battle on his hands against Grootze but showed great character in getting up & down on 18 to win 1 up. Sclater was in a rematch against Greenaway and after a strong showing won 4-3. In the final game Robinson played Hancock and was in control for large parts but his opponent held a spirited fight back to halve the match.

The afternoon's Singles score was 6½-3½, again in Devon's favour.

The day was ended with Devon having a fine win of 11½ -3½ over "the auld enemy" - and fine friends - Cornwall.

Team Manager Andy Parker said, "I would like to thank Yelverton Golf Club for their hospitality, presenting their course in good condition and the roast beef was unbelievable!"
