Devon Clubs head for National Finals

Devon and Somerset club teams head to national final

Golfers from Devon and Somerset are heading to the national finals of the England Club Team Championship.

The five teams, each of two men and two women, won through a regional qualifier at Stover Golf Club, Devon, and now go forward to England Golf Week at Woodhall Spa in August. They’ll play off against qualifiers from three other regional events as they bid to be crowned national champions.

The final will be a feature of Golf Week, staged by England Golf to create a national showcase for a host of handicap and team championships.

The successful five are:

Downes Crediton Golf Club, Devon, represented by David Taylor, Quintin Payne-Cook, Elizabeth Mapson and Fran Shrubsole. They scored 87 points.

Bovey Tracey Golf Club, Devon, represented by Robert Starling, Simon Fisher, Sheelah Ayliffe and Dawn Cottam. They scored 87 points.

Stover Golf Club, Devon, represented by Teresa Metters, Paul McGlinchey, Jill Little and Stewart Duncan. They scored 85 points.

Enmore Park Golf Club, Somerset, represented by Carol Howe, David Howe, Diane Dee and Kevin Dee. They scored 84 points.

Stover Golf Club, Devon, represented by Alan Cleave, Anne Marie Cleave, Clive Spalding and Hilary Richards. They scored 84 points.
