DEVONGOLF BOYS IN THE OPEN QUALIFIERS

The Regional Qualifiers for The 149th Open to be held at The Royal St Georges Golf Club are always hotly contested by both professional and amateur golfers from across the world. With some 140 golfers in each Regional Qualifier, with only the top 25 going through to the Final Qualifying Round, it was always going to be a tough shout but some young Devon players acquitted themselves very well.

Playing in the Regional Qualifiers at Hollinwell Golf Club in Nottinghamshire on the Saturday was DevonGolf Squad Member Jack Pope (Exeter), one of only 48 amateurs in the field. Jack finished +3, just 2 shots off qualifying for the Final Qualifying Round.

The Sunday Regional Qualifying Round at Hollinwell saw another DevonGolf Squad Member, Eliot Baker (Tiverton), play a fine round finishing tied 3rd at -3 to go through to the Final Qualifying Round. Josh Hill (Woodbury Park) also qualified T10 at -1. Both went on to play in The Final Qualifying Round, again at Hollinwell Golf Club. Played over 36 holes, only 3 players make it through to The 149th Open. It was not to be for the boys....  Josh finished T39 at +3 and Eliot T45 at +5. The top qualifier, Daniel Hillier from New Zealand finished -11 so it was definitely worth his trip across the world.

Devon can be very proud of Eliot, Jack and Josh, all playing terrific golf against a huge field of top players.

Devon Professional Golfers who also played in the Regional Qualifiers were Ben Isaac (East Devon) and Harrison King (Staddon Heights).
