SENIOR MEN'S ORDER OF MERIT AT TEIGNMOUTH

The DevonGolf Senior Men's Order of Merit passed the halfway point at Teignmouth on Tuesday with the fifth event in the series.

Best handicap score of the day was an excellent 39 points from Exeter’s Ian Black (12). He played really well all the way round but finished with a lovely 2-putt par from distance on the brutal par 3 final hole. His score was 2 points better than runner-up Ian Guy (Exminster,10).

There was a 3-way tie decided by countback for third place, Terry Hart of High Bullen (9) getting the decision ahead of Crediton’s Andy Frankum (9) and immediate past Captain of the DevonGolf Seniors' side, Rick Pillow (Exeter,5).

In the scratch one of the last men on the course came up with the best score, Dave Eva (1) of Thurlestone notching 34 gross to beat leasing under-55 Rick Osborne (Churston,3) by a single point. Defending Scratch OOM holder Tim Aggett (0) from the Warren had the best back 9 of those on 31 points, bettering Rick Pillow and Jim Colvin (3) of East Devon.

In the overall Orders of Merit a really solid 6th place performance from Exeter’s John Fairman, his 3rd points scoring round this season, moved him from tied 2nd into a 3-point lead in the Handicap OOM over Brian Winteridge (Churston) with Glenn Page (East Devon) 2 further points back. These three are now a little away from the rest, even though neither Brian nor Glenn scored OOM points at Teignmouth.

In the Scratch OOM none of the top three added to their tally, allowing Colin Papworth, Jim Colvin, Grahame Sanford, Tim Aggett and Barrie Keith to close, whilst Dave Eva’s win put him into the mix. 8 OOM points cover the top 9 after 5 events.

There is now a 6-week hiatus in the OOM as attention turns to National Championships, and it’s great to report that DevonGolf’s only representative at last week’s Irish Seniors' Amateur Open, Teignmouth’s Andre Hogan, put in a creditable performance in making the cut and finishing just outside the top 40.

The next DevonGolf OOM event will be the County Senior Medal Championship at Tiverton in the first week of July, which is a 27-hole event and a double points scorer for the OOMs. The tournament can be entered through the DevonGolf website click here.

With attention turning to national matters 8 members of the County Senior squad are in North Lincolnshire next week for the English Seniors Championships, and there will be Devon representatives at both the Scottish and Welsh Championships later in June.
