JOHN SCRIVENER

It is with sadness we report the passing of John Scrivener (Stover 1970)

John passed away recently after a long period of illness. John achieved many significant appointments in golf, he became President of the then Devon County Golf Union from 1974-76, President of Stover 1985-88, returning to become President of DCGU again in 1986-88. In 1988 he also became President of the English Golf Union (England Golf).

After this outstanding period of service to golf he went on to chair the R&A Rules Committee, several times appearing at The Masters as a rules official. In his younger years he won a Blue for golf at Oxford University and was a great lover of foursomes golf. In Roy Smith’s words “ I feel privileged to have known John and proud to have played with him, as a member of Stover Golf Club, a quite remarkable man”

John would have been 81 on 15th April.

The funeral service will take place at 2:30 pm on Tuesday, 23 April 2019 at All Saints Church, 117 Reddenhill Road, Torquay, TQ1 3NY.
