Devon Seniors triumph at Burnham

100% start for Devon

Devon continue their good start to the 2017 season with an exciting 8.5 - 6.5 away win at Burnham and Berrow against Somerset.

Rick Pillow's team knew that Somerset would be strengthening their side keen to make amends to their crushing defeat by Devon last year, so a full day's practice on both the Championship Course and the Channel Course was good preparation for the match ahead.

This proved worthwhile through excellent play producing convincing four wins out of five for the Devon team on Burnham's beautiful and testing Channel Course (well worth a visit to all who read this report). Maybe a lesson learned by Somerset who should play this nine hole gem more often!

Going into the afternoon singles on the Championship Course that three point lead proved absolutely vital as despite early order wins from Simon Waddington, Paul Vicary and Tiverton's in form Tony Allsopp, Devon had to wait until the last pair out for Colin Papworth to seal the match result in Devon's favour with a 6/4 result against Paddy MacLennan.

Devon's Barrie Keith came back from an early two down to win the final two holes and gain an important and hard earned half point against the very experienced Tim Harris the former Captain of Somerset.

We look forward to our next Channel League match against Wiltshire at Torquay in July.
